Carroll County is home ground for Good Soil Land Management. We're based at 2658 County Road 226 in Berryville. The county covers about 639 square miles along the Missouri line. It has two county seats, Berryville and Eureka Springs, and in the 2020 Census about 82% of its residents lived in rural areas. For most landowners here, the work that matters is outside town: pasture going to cedar, homesites that need opening, long driveways, and water that won't drain.

Carroll County land, in short

- Rocky, cherty soils. The uplands are mainly Clarksville, Nixa, and Noark soils on the Springfield Plateau, formed from the cherty limestone of the Boone Formation. Expect chert gravel near the surface and plan grading around it.

- Karst. Springs, sinkholes, and underground drainage are common. Water has to be managed where it actually goes.

- Two lakes, two sets of shoreline rules. Beaver Lake's dam is in western Carroll County, and Holiday Island sits on Table Rock Lake in the northwest. Both shorelines are Corps of Engineers land that needs federal permits for any vegetation work. We work on the private side.

- The Kings River flows north through the county, passing under US 62 west of Berryville on its way to Table Rock Lake. That means creek bottoms, bluffs, and steep draws on a lot of properties.

- Cedar encroachment. Eastern redcedar and brush take over pasture edges and fence lines. Mulching handles cedars that have grown past the size where spraying still works.

How we sequence the work: Clear → Access → Drain

Clearing only helps if you can get onto the land and water drains the right way afterward. We plan in that order: clear the overgrowth, open a route in, and move water where it belongs. Then we build the pad or driveway the property needs. Packages on the home page: Mulch & Open, Clear → Usable , and Clear → Driveway/Build-Ready. Every job starts with a free on-site quote.

Permits worth knowing about

Most brush and pasture work on private rural land in Carroll County doesn't involve city permits. A few rules do come up:

- Arkansas 811: required before any digging, with at least two full working days' notice.

- Arkansas DEQ construction stormwater permit (ARR150000): applies to construction that disturbs one acre or more. Sites between one and five acres get automatic coverage, but the site must post a Notice of Coverage and keep a stormwater plan on-site.

- In town: Eureka Springs has a tree removal permit process and historic-district review. Holiday Island has HISID culvert and road-damage permits and its unit covenants. Each is covered on its town page.
